Our Story

A Bay Area pizza legend since 1961

“The Pizza with the Secret”

When Nunzio Cicero left Niagara Falls, New York for California in the early 1960s, he carried something more valuable than gold — a secret pizza crust recipe that would make him a Silicon Valley legend. His New York-style thin, foldable pies, baked on canola oil in metal pans, were unlike anything the Bay Area had ever tasted.

Our History

1961

The Beginning

Nunzio Cicero opens his first pizzeria in Old Cupertino at Stevens Creek & DeAnza Blvd. Originally named "Pee-Wee's Pizza," then "Coppola's," before becoming Cicero's. He brings his legendary crust recipe from Niagara Falls, New York.

1970s–90s

A Bay Area Institution

Cicero's becomes a beloved gathering place for families across Silicon Valley. When the original Cupertino location is redeveloped, the restaurant moves to Stevens Creek & Blaney Ave, continuing to serve loyal customers.

2001

End of an Era

The Stevens Creek location closes in the summer. Sadly, founder Nunzio Cicero passes away at 87, just one month later. The Bay Area fears they've lost their favorite pizzeria forever.

2002

A Family Legacy Continues

Nunzio's son-in-law Bob LaVerdi and grandson Rik Jones reopen Cicero's Pizza at its current home on 6138 Bollinger Road in San Jose, keeping the original recipes and traditions alive.

Still the Best-Kept Secret

Over 60 years later, Cicero's continues to serve the same legendary New York-style thin, foldable pies. With 4.4 stars and 1,235+ reviews on Yelp, the secret is out — but the recipe stays secret.
